Ringstone

Ringstone has had very few waders this autumn so far but is getting a lot of gulls..There has been an Adult summer , 3 x   2 Cy Caspian Gulls on the shoreline. Mid -afternoon seems to be the best time , 2 Little Egrets dropped in for about 10 minutes yesterday. 1 Swift on the 1st .

This is a fine photo of a Caspian Gull Andy. I can't see any brown on the wings, so is this one of the 2cy birds? I've never known how to pick out Caspian, but your photo shows two features given in 'Europe's Birds' by Hume et al: the eye is set well forward, and the head is whiter than it would be in any other large gull with such immature wing feathers.

Yes a 2cy but a small one , I always find the best feature at this age is the pure white underwing .

Thanks. I'll remember that.
