House Martin

How about this for innovation! Click on the picture to enlarge it with a chick visible.

I came across this occupied House Martin nest this afternoon with adults feeding young! Looks like the previous nest fell off or perhaps someone opened the window? Some kind person has made a substitute box, wrapped it round with parcel tape and fixed it to the window. The House Martins have subsequently mud balled part of the entrance and carried on feeding young as if everything is normal. Well done (and thank you)for the intervention and to the birds adapting to their new surroundings to look after their chicks.

Great to see. I wouldn't have thought the Martins would have used an opening as large as that one but it just goes to show that you never know with wildlife - especially when offspring are involved.
