Well done with another Osprey Dave - we must be on a fly-through. Wonder how many Ospreys we have missed! or how many are yet to come through?
I gather there are around 350 pairs in Scotland + non-breeders plus all the fledged young on the move. Over 1,000 birds!
Cheers Dave,
Its always good to get a "big" raptor, as we dont get so many at this watchpoint but as you say we must miss a good number! I diddnt realise there were that many!
Today (Monday) has been another stormer here with 670 mipits SW (first big count of the autumn) all streaming into Calderdale and also a Hobby > S which would also have come into Calderdale (HC).
Will try to keep Calderdale Birds advised this year of things we get on vis which have gone your way but if I'm slow or if anyone wants to know more, the web page is always there.
Is there any interest in Visible Migration counting in Calderdale and does anyone do formal vis counts? It would be very interesting to compare if there are any good sites?
Best wishes
Dave
Apologies Dave - I got something wrong there ! I should have said circa 150 pairs in the UK - not 350pairs in Scotland (sorry about that - where did I get that from)? I guess that could still mean a lot of birds with young and non-breeders.
Thanks for the info Dave and as you say its still a lot of birds. Think you are right that central northern England in on a flight path..... The RSPB Loch Garten tracking which you flagged up goes a long way to proving it, at least from that part of Scotland!
