26th Sept Red Kite at last

Visited my watch point at 2.00PM, after 20 minutes a Red Kite came over Midgley Moor being persued by a Corvid.Managed to get a few distant photos of the bird which can just be made out. Probably the same bird I missed at Walshaw Dean on Sunday, and has probably been wandering about the area for some time. Also got a distant Common Buzzard, 4 Sparrowhawk sightings and several Kestrels. Posted by Picasa

Well done Nick! I have to say I'm very jealous, Red Kite has been an ambition bird of mine locally for as long as I can remember, typical there should be one virtually over my house whilst I'm at work!!

Red Kite takes me to 192 for Calderdale depending on recent splits. First Calderdale tick for me since the Little Egrets in 2003

This is probably the same bird hanging around that I had over Fly Flatts back in June ? Hopefully they,ll become a common sight soon.

Did you notice an especially pale tail Bri? Nick D and Iain Greenwood both commented the bird they saw had a noticeably pale tail.

The bird we got at Fly was high and overhead so we only got the underside of it where the tail is pale but not outstandingly so.
