Male Ruddy Duck still in winter plumage on water ski lake late afternoon. No sign of Paul's Mandarin on canal
Distant, digiscoped, lopsided record shot you might say, I thought I was stood upright at the time, clearly not!
Hi David No sign of it this morning either and I walked from Elland to the Avocet factory to meet Les. It actually landed next to me on the canal as I walked back home yesterday, I assume its first arrival as I had not spotted it on the way down the canal
The duck that Darrell has no concerns about was present until 16:00 hrs today when it took flight as a speedboat and water skier hit the water.
My apologies for the error, no substitute for experience, the bird is a female common scoter and to be perfectly honest with you I've never seen the female of this species before.
I will post another distant photograph of it from today.

Anybody have any concerns over the identity of this bird? One very experienced observer thinks its a Common Scoter.
