What an incredible few days you have had Brian, will have to hand over the GB award. Two firsts in 3 days is some going, well done persistence pays off. It just goes to show what can be found so far inland if you put in the time. This year as seen possibly 4 new birds for Calderdale, Red Footed Falcon, Bairds Sand, Caspian Gull and Great White Egret, what next????
All great birds Nick, its a matter of putting the time in along with a lot of luck. It was just a spur of the moment thought to walk right on to the end of the reservoir otherwise it would have gone over unseen. Its only taken me 50 yrs of birding to get these two so owt could happen in my next 50.
Thanks for all the comments. Lets hope this becomes a more popular sighting as with Little Egrets. I,ve always known this species as Great White Egret but most of the books have dropped the white. Is this another bird name change, I still call Little Grebes Dabchicks ?
